An article on ugliness and beauty and society by Mia Mingus really struck a chord with Alethya. There is such an urgent need to challenge the socially dominant ideas of attractiveness and to get in touch with our own desires beyond the dominant ideology of only the thin (or, for male identified people, muscular) white and middle class being attractive.
This obsession with appearance is not juts making people feel bad and undermining mental health across all ages but it can even impact what we choose to eat. This article by Mia also reminded Alethya of the push back against “perfect” veg and the work of Oddbox.
